Shared Origins - Winns Gallery
I'm delighted to present the exhibition Shared Origins at the Winns Gallery in Walthamstow. A group show, presenting ten artists curated by Stephen Keane.
Shared Origins is an exhibition exploring the interplay between mystical/narrative painting and abstract painting. It juxtaposes narrative works—with symbolism and storytelling—alongside formalist abstraction. Through this contrast, Shared Origins seeks to uncover the hidden dialogues and exchanges between these two artistic approaches. Are there elements from one tradition that subtly influence the other, perhaps buried deep within the origins of each artwork? Do these influences serve as a mask, concealing deeper connections and shared roots?
The term mystical has varied meanings; in this context, it refers to a reality beyond immediate perception—a dimension of experience that transcends the senses or intellect, distinct from religious or doctrinal mysticism.
Through a curated selection of works, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on how artists navigate and blend these themes.
