Lea Bridge Gallery
Lea Bridge Gallery is a contemporary exhibition space located within Lea Bridge Library in East London. The gallery is grounded in an approach that sees the painted surface as a site of dialogue and negotiation, where control meets improvisation, and intention meets instinct.
We are interested in practices that embrace process as much as outcome. Through making, works accumulate traces of journey, evolution, memory, and transformation, creating space for tension, change, and becoming. This sensibility is shaped through movement, material, experimentation, and discovery.
While painting is the gallery's primary focus, we welcome practices that engage critically with contemporary art and encourage meaningful dialogue between artists and audiences. Lea Bridge Gallery brings together exhibition-making and community engagement within a shared public space.
Working with a range of curators and artists, the gallery aims to present thoughtful, accessible exhibitions that encourage conversation, exchange, and participation.
The gallery space is an extension of the Grade II listed Lea Bridge Library, which was extended in 2021 as a multi-award-winning extension. The project reflects a commitment to sustainable, locally sourced materials, including timber salvaged from local parks. Lea Bridge Gallery opened in January 2026 and presents a programme centred on contemporary art, with proposals for curated group exhibitions welcomed.
